New York City
For many, New York City is the place of longing par excellence. In Greenwich Village, you'll find yourself in front of the Stonewall Inn, where it all began in 1969 – now a National Monument and still a lively bar. The surrounding Christopher Street is full of history, bookstores and small eateries. Move on to Chelsea, which has long been the heart of the scene with its galleries, gyms, and bars, or neighboring Hell's Kitchen, where most of the queer clubs and drag shows are now clustered. In Brooklyn, especially in Williamsburg and Bushwick, you'll find the alternative, younger scene with underground parties. In summer, the city is transformed into the Pride capital: the March marches along Fifth Avenue, and there are countless events. You need sturdy shoes and energy – NYC never sleeps, and that's what makes it so appealing. Plan for spring or autumn for pleasant weather.
