Bars & Clubs in New York

Gay bars in New York City are spread across three areas in Manhattan, and each has its own character. Around 9th and 10th Avenue in the West 40s and 50s, Hell's Kitchen has been considered the liveliest nightlife district in the scene since the 2010s. Here, well-known addresses such as the Flaming Saddles Saloon with a country touch or the drag bar Therapy are close together. Along the avenues there are rows of pubs, lounges and restaurants. Just south of it, Chelsea on 8th Avenue has a long tradition as a gay nightlife district. In the 1990s, this area was the center of the scene as rising rents drove many north from the West Village.

In the West Village you will find the historic side of nightlife. On Christopher Street is the Stonewall Inn, which became the starting point of the modern LGBTQ movement with the raid of 1969 and has remained open as a bar to this day. Two houses down is the Duplex cabaret bar. In Marie's Crisis, they have been singing together on the piano for decades. Depending on the store, the doors open early or late, and on weekends it goes long. The following addresses range from the relaxed corner bar to the club for the long night.
