Amsterdam
Amsterdam is considered one of the most liberal cities in the world and looks back on a long queer history – it was the first country to open same-sex marriage here in 2001. The center of the scene is the Reguliersdwarsstraat, a small alley full of bars and clubs near the Rembrandtplein. Around the Amstel and the Zeedijk you will find other traditional restaurants. A highlight is Amsterdam Pride in summer with its unique Canal Parade, where boats parade across the canals. Don't forget the Homomonument at Westermarkt, the world's first monument to persecuted homosexuals. The city is compact and best explored by bike – between canal houses, museums and cosy cafés. Amsterdam is not cheap, but very safe and relaxed. As a German citizen, you can easily enter the Schengen area with an identity card.
