Key West
Key West is located at the southernmost tip of the USA and has retained its tropical, bohemian charm. The heart of the scene beats at the top of Duval Street, where you'll find bars, drag shows, and laid-back hangouts in the neighborhood around historic 801 Bourbon and neighboring eateries. The island has always maintained a queer-friendly, live-and-let live attitude, which is reflected in the motto of the self-proclaimed Conch Republic. During the day you cycle through narrow streets with colonial wooden houses, visit the Ernest Hemingway House or reach the southernmost point of the USA. In the evening, everyone makes a pilgrimage to Mallory Square to witness the celebrated sunset with street performers. Travel between December and April, when the weather is dry and mild and hurricane season is over. In October, the Fantasy Fest transforms the city into a boisterous costume spectacle. The prices are high, the island feeling priceless.
