Gay hotels and gay-friendly houses in Washington, D.C. make the most sense around Dupont Circle and Logan Circle, where the scene and nightlife take place. There is no such thing as a purely men's hotel in the classic sense in the city. Instead, there are a number of houses that have been geared towards queer guests for years and are within walking distance of the bars along 17th and 14th Streets. If you want to walk from place to place in the evening, it's best to live between Dupont Circle and Logan Circle, because both neighborhoods are on the same axis and are connected in about a quarter of an hour. This saves you taxi rides and you are quickly back in the neighbourhood in the morning.
Dupont Circle is the more residential, brownstone variant with cafes and quieter side streets. Along 14th Street in Logan Circle, things get livelier in the evening. Both locations are well connected to downtown via the metro, so you can easily reach the major attractions on the National Mall, the Capitol and the museums of the Smithsonian Institution. If sightseeing is the main focus, you can also stay near the mall or in the Penn Quarter area, but then you have a little further distance to the scene.
