Food

Gay bars in Buenos Aires are mainly concentrated in Palermo, the district that has developed into the queer center of the city since the 1990s. Low rents and a bohemian character attracted queer bars and cafés at the time, but what remains is a dense scene around Palermo Soho. One of the central axes is Thames Street, where bars, cafés and gay-friendly eateries are open from late afternoon until the early hours of the morning. Important: In Buenos Aires, the evening starts late. Before 11 p.m., most bars are busy, and the clubs often don't fill up until around two a.m.

In addition to Palermo, it is worth taking a look at Recoleta. There is Contramano, the city's most famous bear bar with a long history, as well as Club Glam, which attracts a rather poppy, younger crowd. One of the big names in the nightlife is Club 69, a queer party that takes place on Thursdays at the Niceto Club in Palermo and is known for its drag shows. San Telmo also has queer addresses, but is overall more mixed and alternative than the more established Palermo. Which bar suits you depends on whether you're looking for the laid-back terrace vibe of Palermo, the exuberant dancing in Recoleta, or the quieter option. The following addresses give you an initial overview.
