Gay attractions in Toronto tell a lot about the city's role in the queer movement in Canada. The central location is Church-Wellesley Village, which has been the meeting place of the scene since the 1970s. In the middle of it all is The 519, a community centre on Church Street founded in 1975 that remains a place to go, a venue and part of the city's queer history. Just behind it, in Cawthra Park, the AIDS Memorial commemorates those who died in the AIDS crisis; the names of members of the community are engraved on steles, and the memorial is still added annually to this day.

Another important place is the Glad Day Bookshop, one of the oldest queer bookstores in the world, originally founded in 1970 and now located on Church Street. Those interested in history will quickly come across the 1981 Bathhouse raids, often described as Canada's Stonewall, which gave important impetus to the country's modern gay movement. The highlight of the year is Toronto Pride in June, one of the largest Pride events in North America, whose parade traditionally takes place on Yonge Street on the last Sunday of the month.
