Gay sights in Hamburg almost inevitably lead to St. Georg, because the district around Lange Reihe is the historic heart of the queer city. Since the post-war period, the street has been a meeting place for gay life, and many traces of this history are still visible in everyday life today, from the long-established restaurants to the rainbow flags on the facades. The best way to see the district is to walk from the main train station along Lange Reihe to Hansaplatz, and it doesn't cost anything.

Beyond the scene, queer culture in Hamburg combines with the city's classic goals. St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn have always stood for an open, mixed nightlife in which gay bars and mixed clubs have a firm place. The highlight of the year is Christopher Street Day: in 2026, the parade will move through the city centre on 1 August, plus the street festival on the weekend of 31 July to 2 August. After Cologne, Hamburg Pride is considered one of the largest queer events in Germany and brings tens of thousands onto the streets.
