The boutique house is located in the middle of Boystown – the first officially recognized gay village in the USA. Hot tub, free breakfast and the bars of Halsted Street right outside make it the perfect base.
Charming boutique hotel right next to the Belmont station of the elevated railway: Located just steps from Boystown, the City Suites Hotel is a relaxed, fair choice for queer guests. Breakfast included, and with Northalsted's bars, clubs and restaurants just around the corner, you'll be right in the middle of the action.
Gay hotels and gay-friendly houses in Chicago are closest to Northalsted and the adjacent Lakeview, right next to the nightlife and on the route of the Pride Parade. There is no scene hostel in the sense of a men-only hotel here. On the other hand, a number of hotels have been geared towards queer guests for years and are within walking distance of the bar mile along Halsted Street. A lot is decided by the location: If you want to walk from bar to bar in the evening, it is best to live between Belmont and Addison, where the CTA Red Line stops are located. This saves you taxi rides and you are quickly back in the neighbourhood in the morning.
A quieter alternative is Andersonville, Chicago's second queer neighborhood in the north. Here it is more homely and less noisy, but a little further away from the main scene; but the connection to the city centre and Northalsted is good. If you focus on sightseeing and museums, you will find numerous gay-friendly houses in the city center around the Loop and the Magnificent Mile with short connections to the sights on the lakeshore. Plan early if your visit falls in the summer or on the Pride weekend at the end of June, because then the houses in the north are quickly booked up and prices rise.
