Theatron
In Bogotá, Theatron is the largest gay club in Latin America and extends over several floors with more than 13 themed rooms. Everyone has their own DJs and music styles, from reggaeton and salsa to house and pop to 80s classics. A fast food area with empanadas and burgers keeps the energy high. Especially on Saturdays, thousands of revelers from all over the world come together.
Village Café
Located in Bogotá's Chapinero gay district, the Village Café is a small, cozy socializing bar. The pink counter offers designer cocktails such as gin cucumber and margaritas, as well as coffee variations, gin, whisky, beer and rum as well as daily specials. Musically, the spectrum ranges from disco and French house to rock, supplemented by karaoke and live music.
Gay bars in Bogotá are mainly concentrated in Chapinero, the district in the north of the capital that many simply refer to as the gay district. Between Carrera Séptima and Carrera 13 are most of the addresses of the scene, from small pubs to cocktail bars and large clubs. Chapinero is considered the epicenter of queer nightlife, because here, restaurants, shops and dance floors are lined up over several streets. The district is easy to reach by taxi or driving service; it is located about half an hour north of the old town of La Candelaria.
The most famous house is the Theatron, which opened in 2002 in an old cinema and is considered the largest gay club in Latin America. More than twenty halls are spread over different floors, each with its own musical style, from reggaetón and salsa to electro. It is usually open from Thursday to Saturday, with Saturday being the big evening when the whole building is running. Alongside this, Chapinero has a number of smaller bars and clubs that cater to different tastes, some with drag shows, others more as quiet hangouts for talking and warm-up. People go out late in Bogotá, before midnight it remains manageable in many places. Note that the city is located at an altitude of around 2,640 meters, alcohol works faster here.
