Georgia Aquarium

Piedmont Park is Atlanta's largest green space and is located right on Midtown, the city's queer neighborhood. Atlanta Pride, one of the largest in the southeastern United States, takes place here every year. Throughout the year, you will meet for a jog, picnic or simply to relax with a view of the skyline.
World of Coca-Cola
At the World of Coca-Cola on Pemberton Place, you can experience the history of what is probably the most famous brand in the world – from pharmacy syrup to global beverage. The highlight is the tasting hall, where you can taste over a hundred Coca-Cola varieties from all over the world. Located right next to the Georgia Aquarium, the two can be combined well.
Schwule Sehenswürdigkeiten in Atlanta sind weniger einzelne Bauwerke als Orte mit Geschichte, und fast alle liegen in oder nahe Midtown. Das bekannteste Symbol ist die Regenbogen-Fußgängerampel an der Kreuzung von Piedmont Avenue und 10th Street, die seit 2017 dauerhaft markiert ist und die Bedeutung dieser Ecke für die Community sichtbar macht. Gleich daneben beginnt der Piedmont Park, der grüne Mittelpunkt des Viertels, in dem sich queere Gruppen zu Picknicks und Sport treffen und auf dem die großen Feste der Stadt stattfinden. Ein Spaziergang durch Midtown führt fast zwangsläufig an den Lokalen und Plätzen vorbei, die die Szene bis heute prägen.
Wer sich für die Geschichte interessiert, kommt an der Atlanta Pride nicht vorbei. Sie wurde 1971 gegründet und gilt als ältestes Pride-Event im Süden der USA. Aus dem Protest nach einer Polizeirazzia entstand der erste Marsch, der vom Stadtzentrum zum Piedmont Park führte, wobei die Teilnehmer mangels Genehmigung auf den Gehwegen bleiben mussten. Heute findet das Festival seit 2008 im Oktober statt, meist am Wochenende um den National Coming Out Day, und zieht Hunderttausende Besucher in den Park. Damit verbindet sich am selben Ort die frühe Aktivismusgeschichte der Stadt mit ihrem heutigen größten queeren Fest. Die folgenden Orte führen dich zu den wichtigsten Stationen.
