Sydney
Sydney is considered one of the most queer-friendly cities of all – openness is part of everyday life here. The heart of the scene beats around Oxford Street in Darlinghurst, where bars, clubs and cafés are lined up. The highlight of the year is the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras, whose parade brings hundreds of thousands onto the streets. During the day, the harbour with its Opera House and Harbour Bridge beckons, and you can also spend beach days at Bondi Beach or the more mixed Tamarama. You should take your time for the iconic Bondi-to-Coogee Coastal Walk. The Newtown district with King Street is the somewhat more alternative, young alternative to Oxford Street. Sydney is not cheap, but safe and easy to explore on foot and by ferry. Because of the southern hemisphere summer, plan your visit between November and February – ideal for the beach, sun and the bustling nightlife.
