Gay attractions in Montréal revolve primarily around Le Village, the heart of the city's queer life. In the Ville-Marie district, the district stretches along Rue Sainte-Catherine Est and is considered the largest gay village in North America in terms of area. If you want to get to know the scene, it's best to walk down the street, past bars, cafés and the Beaudry metro station, whose entrance is designed in rainbow colors. In summer, part of the Sainte-Catherine becomes a pedestrian zone, over which the well-known pink balls are stretched, an installation that returns every year and marks the district visibly from afar.
The highlight of the year is the Fierté Montréal, the largest LGBTQ festival in the francophone world. In 2026, it will run from July 31 to August 9, the big parade will conclude on Sunday, August 9, along the Boulevard René-Lévesque, and the organizers expect hundreds of thousands of visitors. If you come away from the festival, you can connect the Village with other corners of the city: the cobblestone old town on the St. Lawrence River, Mont Royal with a view over the rooftops or the lively markets. The queer history gives the stay its own red thread.
