Gay bars in Maspalomas are almost entirely concentrated in the Yumbo Centrum, a large shopping center in the Playa del Inglés district. During the day, the complex looks like a normal center with shops, but in the evening it turns into the heart of the gay scene in Gran Canaria. It was opened in 1982. Over the years, a density of bars, pubs and clubs has accumulated here that is unparalleled in Europe. From the ground floor to the upper floors, there is one restaurant after another, and most of them are only a few steps away from each other.
The spectrum is broad. Relaxed terrace bars for sundowners stand next to cabaret and drag bars with show programs, plus bear bars and clubs that only get really crowded late. The crowd is made up of travellers from all over Europe, long-term holidaymakers and regular guests, many of them from Scandinavia, Germany and the UK. The weekends are busiest, but drag shows and terrace parties run practically every evening. If you're visiting the Yumbo for the first time, it's best to let yourself drift and see where it gets crowded. The following addresses give you an overview of which bar suits your evening.
