Cape Town
Cape Town is considered the most queer-friendly city in Africa, and South Africa's constitution explicitly protects same-sex couples. The heart of the scene is De Waterkant, a pretty neighbourhood with colourful houses, bars and clubs around Somerset Road. Table Mountain towers over the city, which you can climb by cable car or on foot; in addition, beaches such as Clifton and Camps Bay beckon, as well as excursions to the nearby wine country around Stellenbosch. In February or March, the city celebrates Cape Town Pride. Openness is mainly concentrated in De Waterkant and tourist zones – in other parts of the city and when it comes to security, the usual caution is advisable, for example at night and in lonely areas. The best time to visit is the southern hemisphere summer from November to March with warm, dry weather. Nature, culture and scene combine here to create a unique destination.
