Bars & Clubs in Kapstadt

Gay bars in Cape Town can almost all be found in the De Waterkant district in Green Point, the gay center of the city. Located at the foot of Signal Hill, the small quarter has established itself as a gay village since the 1990s. During the day you sit in the cafés on Somerset Road, in the evening you continue to the bars and clubs all around. One of the oldest addresses is Café Manhattan, half pub, half restaurant. For years, it has maintained itself as a relaxed meeting place for locals and travelers. If you are traveling alone, you will quickly get into conversation here.

For the longer night, there are several clubs in the neighborhood. Many of them only open on weekends and then run until the morning. The clientele is mixed, often younger, and in some shops, drag shows or karaoke are an integral part of the program. De Waterkant is considered safe enough to walk from bar to bar even after dark, which is not a matter of course in Cape Town. For journeys outside the neighbourhood, it is worthwhile to take a taxi or a driving service in the evening. The highlight of the year is Cape Town Pride, whose parade will take place on February 28 in 2026; in these weeks there is much more going on in the district.
