Akropolis & Parthenon

Tagsüber führt der Weg fast zwangsläufig zur Akropolis mit dem Parthenon, zum darunterliegenden Akropolis-Museum und durch die Altstadtviertel Plaka und Monastiraki. Abends verlagert sich das Geschehen nach Gazi rund um das alte Gaswerk Technopolis, das heute ein Kulturzentrum ist und das Herz des queeren Ausgehviertels bildet. Diese Nähe von Antike und Szene macht einen besonderen Reiz der Stadt aus.
Eine eigene Bedeutung für queere Reisende hat der Nationalgarten mit dem angrenzenden Zappeion nahe dem Syntagma-Platz, der nicht nur eine grüne Oase im Zentrum ist, sondern abends auch als Treffpunkt bekannt ist. Wichtigster Termin im queeren Jahr ist Athens Pride, der seit 2005 stattfindet und 2026 am 13. Juni mit der Parade am Syntagma-Platz Zehntausende auf die Straße bringt. Wer sich für die jüngere Geschichte interessiert, kann sie an der gesellschaftlichen Öffnung des Landes ablesen, das 2024 als erstes orthodox geprägtes Land die gleichgeschlechtliche Ehe einführte.
