You will stay in Vienna's only gay-run hotel – a family-run guesthouse from 1960 in a magnificent patrician house in the quiet Josefstadt. In the same building is the popular sports sauna, and you can reach the historic center in a few minutes.
You will only find a few gay hotels in Vienna as designated scene houses, but the city is relaxed overall and many houses openly advertise as gay-friendly. If you want to live in the middle of the community, it is best to look in the sixth district, in Mariahilf, or in the neighboring fourth district. From here it is only a few steps to the Naschmarkt with its bars and cafés, and Mariahilfer Straße as a large shopping mile is right next door. The first district, the historic Innere Stadt, is also a good choice if short distances to sights and the Kaiserbründl sauna are more important to you than proximity to the bar.
Vienna is well served by the subway, so accommodation just outside the central districts works without any problems. The U4 and U6 lines will take you quickly to the action. If you arrive at the time of Vienna Pride at the end of May and beginning of June, you should book early, as many houses are full and prices are rising. Outside peak hours, the city is comparatively affordable. Whether it's a classic city hotel, a small boutique house or an apartment, the selection around Mariahilf covers almost every budget.
