Gay bars in Vienna are concentrated around the Naschmarkt, where the fourth and sixth districts border each other. For decades, this strip has been considered the queer heart of the city, most of the bars are located in the sixth district, in Mariahilf. A permanent fixture is Café Savoy on the Naschmarkt. The traditional coffee house with halls of mirrors was opened at the end of the 19th century and has long since become a meeting place for the community. Just around the corner, HOSI Vienna runs the Gugg, and the Türkis Rosa Lila Villa runs its own café, Villa Vida, which is cozy during the day and becomes a meeting place in the evening.
If you want to start the evening in the bar, you will find several small restaurants in a small space around the Linke and Rechte Wienzeile, from a quiet café to a bar with a video wall. Unlike in larger metropolises, the scene is not spread over half the city, but remains manageable and easily accessible on foot. This makes it easy to visit several restaurants in one evening. The distances are short. From the Naschmarkt you can walk to the next address in a few minutes. The following shops range from coffee houses with tradition to bars for the later hour.
