Gay bars in Rome gather mainly on Via San Giovanni in Laterano, the so-called Gay Street east of the Colosseum in the Celio district. The scene has been meeting in this area since the 1960s, and the name Gay Street became established in 2007. During the day, there are many addresses here: café and aperitivo bar. It is only late in the evening, often around eleven, that the mood shifts towards nightlife. Well-known places to go are the Coming Out, which has been a meeting place since 2001, and the neighboring My Bar. On warm weekends, part of the audience simply stands outside on the street, with a view of the illuminated Colosseum.

A second bundle of queer bars is located in Trastevere on the other side of the Tiber. The bars there are a touch more elegant, more cocktail lounge than casual pub. For the big club nights and the party rows, on the other hand, you often have to go further out, for example to Ostiense south of Testaccio, where the larger locations and the later program are located. So Rome doesn't have a single party mile, the action is spread over several corners. If you are flexible and plan the routes, you can cope well with it. Depending on your mood and time, the following bars and clubs will show you the best place to land.
