Bahnhof Antwerpen-Centraal
Antwerpen-Centraal station is considered one of the most beautiful train stations in the world and is affectionately known as the "Railway Cathedral" because of its massive dome. Built between 1895 and 1905, the building impresses with marble, gold and a 75-metre-high hall over four track levels.
Grote Markt
The Grote Markt is Antwerp's magnificent main square, lined with ornate Renaissance guild houses and the imposing City Hall. In the middle is the Brabo Fountain, which shows the legend of the soldier Silvius Brabo – it is said to have given the city its name.
Liebfrauenkathedrale
The Cathedral of Our Lady with its 123-metre-high tower is the landmark of Antwerp and one of the largest Gothic churches in Europe. Inside, marvel at several world-famous masterpieces by Peter Paul Rubens, including the monumental "Raising the Cross" and "Deposition from the Cross."
Rubenshaus
The Rubens House was the home and studio of the famous Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens, who had it rebuilt in the style of an Italian palazzo from 1610 onwards according to his own designs. Today, the ensemble with its baroque courtyard and garden is a museum – note that the residential part is currently being renovated.
Gay attractions in Antwerp are best explored through the city's queer history, which is closely linked to the community center Het Roze Huis. Founded in 1995, the center brings together numerous associations and sees itself as a contact point for the queer community. Among other things, it organises the Antwerp Queer Walks, guided walking tours that take you past stations of the queer movement, from the beginnings of activism to nightlife. Antwerp does not have its own large queer museum, but the story of such walks and individual places in the cityscape is tangible.
Around the train station, the Van Schoonhovenstraat and the old town, many things can be connected on foot, so that sightseeing and visiting the scene can be combined well. Among the general highlights that queer guests also appreciate are the cathedral, the MAS museum on the old harbour with a roof terrace and views over the city, and the fashion district with the MoMu, which shapes Antwerp's reputation as a fashion city. In the summer, a cultural programme is added: the Antwerp Queer Arts Festival accompanies the season with exhibitions and events, and the Antwerp Pride in August is a clear highlight with a parade and festival. The following locations will take you to the most important stations.
