Bear
For one week in summer, Guerneville belongs to the bears. According to the organizers, more than 2,500 come to the small town on the Russian River in California. In 2027, Lazy Bear Week will run from July 26 to August 2. It began in 1995 as Lazy Bear Weekend: Harry Lit, Allen Eggman and friends sat by the pool in Guerneville and watched a poorly attended event, which is where the idea came from. Since 2017, a new team has been organizing the meeting and has extended it to a whole week. Behind it is the Lazy Bear Fund, a non-profit, volunteer-run organization. What it raises goes to groups that care about the health and well-being of queer people. Since 2017, this has been more than two million dollars, according to the company. You get access to the events with a Bear Tag, which you buy in advance via Eventbrite. There is no schedule for 2027 yet. Expect pool parties, campfires under redwoods, music, and games.
