At the end of its anniversary season, VACAYA returns to the seventh continent as a pure LGBTQIA+ full charter. The 13-night voyage begins with two nights in Buenos Aires and one night in Ushuaia, before heading from Ponant across the Drake Passage to the Antarctic Peninsula on the 5-star yacht Le Lyrial. Ten nights on board means: daily Zodiac expeditions, penguin colonies and ice landscapes that you hardly get to see anywhere else. (As of research: sold out, waiting list.)

The ship · Le Lyrial

Le Lyrial has been sailing for many years as one of the flagships of the French expedition shipping company Ponant and is easily recognizable by its distinctive dark gray hull. With 122 cabins for up to 244 guests, it is one of the larger ships in its class, but remains significantly smaller than classic cruise giants.

The LGBTQ+ operator VACAYA charters the ship for elaborate expedition trips, for example to Antarctica or towards the North Pole - routes that are otherwise rarely offered as charters for an exclusively queer clientele. On board, the upscale ambience of a Ponant cruise combines with lectures by polar experts, Zodiac landings and a program explicitly tailored to the LGBTQ+ community. For many participants, it is precisely this mixture of an extraordinary destination and a consistently openly queer atmosphere that makes the difference to a regular expedition cruise.

Frequently asked questions

How does an LGBT cruise differ from a regular one?

As a rule the entire ship is chartered — a 100% queer crowd with its own programme of DJs, drag shows and themed parties.

What is usually included?

Cabin, full board, entertainment and pool are mostly included. Premium drinks, spa and shore excursions are usually charged separately.

Is the trip suitable for solo travellers?

Yes — the solo share is high on many trips, and there are often dedicated solo meet-ups on board.

What are the cancellation terms?

That depends on the operator. You will find the exact deadlines and conditions directly with the provider.

What about safety when docking in restrictive countries?

The operators are careful about route choices. At controversial ports, shore excursions are curated thoughtfully.
