You will celebrate New Year's Eve on this trip on the water, much earlier than Europe. Olivia charters the Coral Adventurer, a small expedition ship of Coral Expeditions, and invites lesbian and queer women. Embarkation will take place on December 30, 2027 in Wellington. Via Ship Cove in the Marlborough Sounds, it will sail to Kaikoura, where whales, dolphins and albatrosses can be seen, then to Akaroa in the old volcanic crater and to Scottish-influenced Dunedin. This will be followed by Stewart Island with the bird sanctuary Ulva Island and three days in Fiordland National Park: Dusky, Doubtful or Thompson Sound and finally Milford Sound. The order in which the ship calls at the fjords depends on the weather. After a day at sea at the Solander Islands, the trip ends in Bluff on January 9, 2028. You should be sure-footed, because the excursions lead over rocks and uneven paths, and on land you go by Zodiac.

Frequently asked questions

How does an LGBT cruise differ from a regular one?

As a rule the entire ship is chartered — a 100% queer crowd with its own programme of DJs, drag shows and themed parties.

What is usually included?

Cabin, full board, entertainment and pool are mostly included. Premium drinks, spa and shore excursions are usually charged separately.

Is the trip suitable for solo travellers?

Yes — the solo share is high on many trips, and there are often dedicated solo meet-ups on board.

What are the cancellation terms?

That depends on the operator. You will find the exact deadlines and conditions directly with the provider.

What about safety when docking in restrictive countries?

The operators are careful about route choices. At controversial ports, shore excursions are curated thoughtfully.
