Itinerary

12 stops · 13 nights

  1. 1
    New Delhi (India) Start
    Embarkation

In Delhi, you will see the broad axes of New Delhi with India Gate and government district, the Qutub Minar and Humayun's tomb, a model of the Taj Mahal. In Old Delhi, a rickshaw ride will take you through the alleys of Chandni Chowk to the Red Fort and the Friday mosque Jama Masjid.

  2. 2
    Kolkata (India)

Kolkata was the capital of British India, as the white Victoria Memorial on the Maidan reminds us. The Howrah Bridge takes you to the flower market on the Hugli, an estuary of the Ganges, and in the motherhouse of the Missionaries of Charity lies the grave of Mother Teresa.

  3. 3
    Bandel (India)

Bandel is located on the Hugli north of Kolkata. Here stands the Basilica of the Holy Rosary, one of the oldest Christian churches in West Bengal, founded by Portuguese settlers. Nearby, the Imambara of Hooghly with its clock tower is a reminder of the Shiite community.

  4. 4
    Kalna (India)

Kalna, also known as Ambika Kalna, is known for its terracotta temples. In the Rajbari complex, you'll see temples with ornate brick facades, and the Nava Kailash Temple consists of 108 small Shiva shrines arranged in two circles.

  5. 5
    Matiari (India)

Matiari is a village on the Ganges, whose craftsmen still shape and hammer brass and copper vessels by hand. In the workshops, you can watch how pots and plates are made from sheet metal and experience the everyday life of a Bengali village on the river.

  6. 6
    Khushbagh (India)

In Khushbagh, the "Garden of Bliss" on the banks of the Bhagirathi, lies Siraj-ud-Daula, the last independent Nawab of Bengal. The tombs are located in a quiet garden opposite Murshidabad, which you can reach by boat.

  7. 7
    Baranagar (India)

Baranagar on the banks of the Bhagirathi near Murshidabad is known for its terracotta temples, which were built by Queen Rani Bhabani. The facades of the Char Bangla temples show scenes from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata in fired clay.

  8. 8
    Murshidabad (India)

Murshidabad was the capital of the Nawabs of Bengal. In the Hazarduari Palace with its thousand doors, many of which are only dummies, you can see weapons, paintings and furniture, opposite stands the great Imambara, and the Katra Mosque houses the tomb of the city's founder, Murshid Quli Khan.

  9. 9
    Mayapur (India)

Mayapur is considered the birthplace of Saint Chaitanya and is the headquarters of the Hare Krishna movement ISKCON. You will visit the temple district at the confluence of two Ganges branches, hear the chants of the believers and see the construction of the great temple of the Vedic Planetarium.

  10. 10
    Chandernagore (India)

Chandernagore, now Chandannagar, was a French colony on the Hugli until after India's independence. On the waterfront, which is called the beach here, there is the Church of the Sacred Heart and colonial buildings, and the Institut de Chandernagor tells of the French past.

  11. 11
    Jaipur (India)

Jaipur, the pink city of Rajasthan, welcomes you with the Palace of Winds, whose window façade allowed the ladies-in-waiting to overlook the street. You will visit the City Palace, the Jantar Mantar Observatory, and the Amber Fort on the hill above the city.

  12. 12
    Agra (India) Finish
    Disembarkation

In Agra stands the Taj Mahal, which the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan had built as a tomb for his wife Mumtaz Mahal; in the morning light, its marble shimmers pink. A little upstream is the Red Fort of Agra, and west of the city is the abandoned Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri.

The ship · Ganges Voyager II

The Ganges Voyager II is a small, elegant rivership from Uniworld with space for only a few dozen guests – built for the lower Ganges region in India, far away from the image of the great ocean cruise.

For queer travelers, the ship is particularly interesting due to charter trips by the specialized operator Brand G Vacations, which charters the Ganges Voyager II for complete all-gay trips through India's "Golden Triangle" and along the Ganges, partly around the Holi festival. Anyone who books such a trip travels with a purely queer group through a country whose legal situation and social reality for LGBTQ+ people differ greatly from region to region.

Outside of these charter trips, the Ganges Voyager II operates as a regular Uniworld ship with a mixed, mostly older audience and the very personal service typical of the shipping company.

Frequently asked questions

How does an LGBT cruise differ from a regular one?

As a rule the entire ship is chartered — a 100% queer crowd with its own programme of DJs, drag shows and themed parties.

What is usually included?

Cabin, full board, entertainment and pool are mostly included. Premium drinks, spa and shore excursions are usually charged separately.

Is the trip suitable for solo travellers?

Yes — the solo share is high on many trips, and there are often dedicated solo meet-ups on board.

What are the cancellation terms?

That depends on the operator. You will find the exact deadlines and conditions directly with the provider.

What about safety when docking in restrictive countries?

The operators are careful about route choices. At controversial ports, shore excursions are curated thoughtfully.
