Itinerary

9 stops · 12 nights

  1. 1
    Lima (Peru) Start
    Embarkation

Peru's capital connects the colonial buildings around the Plaza Mayor and the San Francisco Monastery with its catacombs with the Miraflores district on the cliffs above the Pacific. In the artists' quarter of Barranco and at the food stalls, you can try ceviche and pisco sour.

  2. 2
    Iquitos (Peru)

Iquitos is considered the largest city in the world that cannot be reached by road: you can get there by plane or boat. On the banks of the Amazon there are rubber-era houses with azulejo facades and the iron Casa de Fierro, and in the Belén district, the houses float at high tide.

  3. 3
    Nauta (Peru)

Nauta is located near the confluence of the Marañón and Ucayali rivers, which from here on are collectively called Amazonas. The small town is the starting point for river trips towards Pacaya-Samiria, and at its harbour you can watch traders and fishermen moor their boats.

  4. 4
    Pacaya-Samiria Reserve (Peru)

The Pacaya Samiria Reserve is one of Peru's largest protected areas, a flood forest between Marañón and Ucayali. In the dinghy, you'll spot pink river dolphins, sloths, monkeys, and hundreds of species of birds, and at night, the caimans' eyes glow in the cone of light.

  5. 5
    Yarapa (Peru)

On the Río Yarapa, a tributary of the Ucayali, you will glide in a dinghy through black water and flooded forests. Here you will meet river dolphins, hoatzins and kingfishers and visit villages whose inhabitants live from fishing and small fields on the shore.

  6. 6
    Sacred Valley / Urubamba (Peru)

The Sacred Valley of the Incas stretches along the Urubamba River between Cusco and Machu Picchu. See the ruins and market of Pisac, the salt terraces of Maras, where salt has been extracted since Inca times, and the circular agricultural terraces of Moray.

  7. 7
    Ollantaytambo (Peru)

In Ollantaytambo, you walk through a town whose street grids and walls date back to the Inca period. Above the village, the terraces of the temple fortress rise, and from the train station, the train travels through the narrow Urubamba Valley to Aguas Calientes at the foot of Machu Picchu.

  8. 8
    Machu Picchu (Peru)

The Inca city of Machu Picchu is located on a mountain saddle high above the Urubamba Valley, overlooked by Huayna Picchu and surrounded by cloud forest. Between the Temple of the Sun, Intihuatana stone and terraces, you can see how precisely the Incas set their stone walls without mortar.

  9. 9
    Cusco (Peru) Finish
    Disembarkation

The former capital of the Inca Empire is located at an altitude of around 3,400 meters. The cathedral at the Plaza de Armas and the monastery of Santo Domingo stand on Inca foundations, the latter on the sun temple Qorikancha, and above the city you can see the mighty walls of Sacsayhuamán.

The ship · Delfin III

The Delfin III is a boutique colonial-style ship with only 22 suites for a maximum of 44 guests – small enough to penetrate deep into the tributaries of the Peruvian Amazon, comfortable enough for five-star standards in the middle of the rainforest. Floor-to-ceiling windows, air-conditioned cabins and an experienced team of naturalist guides characterize the stay on board.

Brand g Vacations, an operator of exclusively gay group tours, regularly charters the ship for multi-day combination trips of Amazon cruise and visit to Machu Picchu. During the day, small dinghies go through tributaries for wildlife and bird watching, and in the evening, guests can expect gourmet cuisine with local ingredients and an atmosphere in which no one has to explain themselves. For many participants, the combination of nature experience and relaxed, openly queer group travel is the real attraction.

Frequently asked questions

How does an LGBT cruise differ from a regular one?

As a rule the entire ship is chartered — a 100% queer crowd with its own programme of DJs, drag shows and themed parties.

What is usually included?

Cabin, full board, entertainment and pool are mostly included. Premium drinks, spa and shore excursions are usually charged separately.

Is the trip suitable for solo travellers?

Yes — the solo share is high on many trips, and there are often dedicated solo meet-ups on board.

What are the cancellation terms?

That depends on the operator. You will find the exact deadlines and conditions directly with the provider.

What about safety when docking in restrictive countries?

The operators are careful about route choices. At controversial ports, shore excursions are curated thoughtfully.
