Prague — Golden City for a Long Weekend

Gay Prague can be experienced in a pleasantly uncomplicated way, because queer life is predominantly concentrated in a single district. If you are looking for the scene, you will almost automatically end up in Vinohrady, the Prague 2 district east of the center. Around Náměstí Míru Square, bars, cafés and clubs are within walking distance. In between are the wide streets and the Wilhelminian apartment buildings, which give the district its quiet, homely character. Unlike in many metropolises, there is little spread over the whole city, which makes getting to know each other and bar hopping easy.

During the day, the city itself remains the program. Because the old town, Charles Bridge and the castle are close enough, sightseeing and a trendy evening can be easily combined in one day, especially since Prague is well connected by tram and metro. The Czech Republic is considered one of the more liberal countries in Central and Eastern Europe. In everyday life, an open appearance in the touristy and queer districts is hardly noticeable. A fixed date in the calendar is Prague Pride in August: a festival week of parties, films and discussions that ends with a parade through the city centre. Travel time is therefore often late summer, but spring is also suitable when the city is not yet overcrowded. If you like it quieter, come in autumn, when prices drop and the light over the Vltava becomes particularly beautiful.
