The Marais is Paris' queer heart: narrow streets, cafés and most of the bars are located around the Rue des Archives and the Rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie.
Best time to visit

Spring and early autumn are ideal: mild weather, long evenings and crowded terraces, without the midsummer heat.

Paris shows its most relaxed side to queer travelers as soon as you drift from the historic center to the Marais. Around the Rue des Archives and the Rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie, bar after café is lined up, in between small boutiques and every now and then a look into the narrow, winding streets of the district. A walk along the Seine, past Notre-Dame, leads there almost automatically – and ends best with an aperitif on one of the terraces.

If you stay longer, you can combine the Marais with trips to the Île de la Cité, the Centre Pompidou or up to Montmartre, where the alleys around the Sacré-Cœur feel very different from the lively nightlife mile in the evening. The Canal Saint-Martin is also worth a detour before the evening ends back in the Marais. The most pleasant time to explore the city is in spring or early autumn, when the terraces are full without the summer heat oppressing.

Day 1

Marais

15:00 Arrive and check in — it's best to stay in the trendy district around the Marais, then you have the bars and cafés within walking distance.
17:00 First round through the Rue des Archives, shop windows and small squares, coffee on a terrace.
20:00 Dinner in the district, followed by a drink in the bars around Rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie.

Day 2

Île de la Cité & Seine

11:00 Explore the banks of the Seine and the Île de la Cité, Centre Pompidou or the Louvre depending on your desire.
16:00 Break in the Jardins, then back to the Marais for a stroll.
21:00 Relaxed evening in the bars and squares around the district.

Day 3

Montmartre & Canal Saint-Martin

11:00 Up to Montmartre to Sacré-Cœur and through the winding streets.
15:00 Stroll along the Canal Saint-Martin and take a break at a café.

Gay Paris

Gay Paris revolves mainly around the Marais, the queer heart of the French capital in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. Around the Rue des Archives, the Rue du Temple and the Rue Sainte-Croix-de-la-Bretonnerie, bar after bar is lined up, as well as cafés, restaurants and trendy shops. The neighborhood is compact and can be explored entirely on foot, making bar hopping easy. Unlike in some metropolises, the Parisian scene is clearly concentrated in this one place instead of being spread across the entire city.

For a first visit, accommodation in or near the Marais is the best choice, as bars, cafés and many sights are within walking distance. If you are planning museums and classic sightseeing, you can also live more centrally in the direction of the Louvre or Saint-Germain. In addition to the bars, the scene also includes several established saunas and queer-friendly restaurants, most of them also in the center. Paris is worthwhile all year round. However, the city is most lively in early summer. The highlight is the Marche des Fiertés, which will take place on 27 June 2026 and is embedded in the Semaine des Fiertés from 20 to 27 June. If you come at this time, you should book the accommodation early. In everyday life, you will quickly notice that Paris is open with queer guests.
