Nice is the shining gateway to the Côte d'Azur: Mediterranean light, the palm-fringed Promenade des Anglais and a picturesque old town with Italian charm. For a queer weekend, relaxed beach flair and a surprisingly lively scene around the Vieux Nice are combined. Everything here is just a rough suggestion that you can adjust at your own pace.

What to expect

1
Trendy Vieux Nice district
There is no concentrated gay village in Nice, but most queer bars and clubs are located close to each other in the old town of Vieux Nice, all within easy walking distance. The scene is one of the largest in France outside of Paris and blends easily with the hustle and bustle of the alleys.
2
Best time to visit
May to September offers warm Mediterranean climate and best beach days. If you want to party, plan the Pink Parade (Nice Pride) in summer, whose procession moves along the Promenade des Anglais – one of the most spectacular Pride backdrops in Europe.
3
Don't Miss
A walk along the seven-kilometre-long Promenade des Anglais on the Mediterranean, the colourful market on the Cours Saleya in the old town and the climb to the Colline du Château (Castle Hill) with a panoramic view over the city and bay.

Gay Nizza

Gay Nice is a laid-back destination on the Côte d'Azur for gay travelers, combining Mediterranean lifestyle with a manageable but vibrant scene. Located directly on the Mediterranean Sea, the city scores with the beach on the Promenade des Anglais, which is a must. Queer life takes place mainly in the old town, the Vieux Nice with its narrow streets around Place Garibaldi and Place Masséna. Here, most bars, cafés and small clubs are close together, so you can easily walk from one place to the next in the evening. The scene is not huge, but concentrated and uncomplicated.

Besides the nightlife, Nice has enough for whole days. The old town with its markets, the Cours Saleya, the Colline du Château with a view over the bay and the long beach promenade can be easily explored on foot. As a base, a quarter near the old town or the train station is a good place to start, from which you can combine the scene, beach and sights well. Because France is liberal, gay couples move around Nice without much attention. It's best to travel from late spring to early autumn, when the weather is mild and the sea is warm. In summer, the Pink Parade, the city's Pride, is a queer highlight.
