What to expect
The heart of Munich's queer scene beats in the Glockenbach district, and it is precisely here that accommodation is most worthwhile. Cafés and bars are close together, so the first evening is almost self-evident: a coffee to arrive, later a beer in one of the bars around the Gärtnerplatz district.
If you want to see the Bavarian side of the city, you can pass Marienplatz and the old town before the English Garden with its beer garden invites you to take a break. On the banks of the Isar, especially on the gravel banks, Munich shows its most relaxed side. In between, you can stroll through the Viktualienmarkt and try regional specialties before the evening leads back to the Glockenbachviertel.
The city is at its most beautiful in spring and summer, when people sit outside and Christopher Street Day gives the district extra momentum. If you want to be openly queer, Munich is one of the warmest and most accessible scenes in southern Germany.

Gay München
Gay Munich is one of the most relaxed addresses for queer travelers in Germany. The heart of the scene beats in the Glockenbachviertel, southwest of Gärtnerplatz, with Müllerstraße and Hans-Sachs-Straße as the centre. Here, bar after café is lined up with trendy shops, and the Hotel and Bathhouse Deutsche Eiche on Reichenbachstraße is one of the city's most traditional addresses. Since the 1920s, the district has been a queer meeting place, and in 1969 Germany's first gay leather bar, the Ochsengarten, opened on Müllerstraße.
For a first visit, the Glockenbachviertel is the best base because you can reach bars, cafés and the sauna on foot and the old town is right next door. Munich does not have a sprawling club culture, but short distances and an open everyday climate. The city is suitable as a travel time all year round, in summer it becomes liveliest. The highlight is Christopher Street Day with the PolitParade on June 27, 2026 and Pride Weeks of several weeks before it. If you come at this time or to the Oktoberfest, you should book your accommodation early, because then rooms become scarce and expensive. In everyday life, you will quickly notice how naturally Munich deals with queer guests.
