Trendy district
Around the Lange Reihe in St. Georg you will find most queer cafés and bars — easy to explore on foot.

Best time to visit
Late spring to early autumn is ideal; the Hamburg Pride in summer brings additional atmosphere to the city.
3
Don't Miss
The Landungsbrücken, the Speicherstadt and a walk around the Inner Alster.

St. Georg and especially the Lange Reihe are the center of Hamburg's queer scene, with numerous cafés and bars that are easy to explore on foot. The proximity to the city center makes the neighborhood the most obvious choice for accommodation.

A walk to the Landungsbrücken and through the Speicherstadt is part of the fixed program, as is a lap around the Inner Alster. If you want to feel the harbour romance of the city, you will find plenty of opportunity to do so there before heading back to St. Georg in the evening.

Gay Hamburg

Gay Hamburg revolves mainly around St. Georg, the district directly behind the main train station. The main axis is the Lange Reihe, a street that has been the center of the city's gay life since the post-war period, making it one of the oldest continuously queer neighborhoods in Germany. Here, bar after café is lined up with trendy shops, plus saunas nearby and several hotels that cater to gay guests or deal with queer travelers as a matter of course. St. Georg is an ideal base for a first visit, because you have queer life on your doorstep and you can quickly reach the whole city via the main train station.

If you want more than the scene, you'll find enough in Hamburg anyway. St. Pauli and the Reeperbahn are synonymous with an open nightlife where gay bars and mixed clubs have their place, and the harbour with Speicherstadt and Elbphilharmonie is just a short drive away. Hamburg is suitable as a travel time all year round, but the city is most lively from spring to late summer, when life moves outside. The highlight is Christopher Street Day, which will take place in 2026 with the parade on August 1 and the street festival on the weekend of July 31 to August 2. If you come at this time, you should book the accommodation early. Hamburg is considered one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Germany, and you will quickly notice this in everyday life.
