Bangkok — Temple Splendour and Open Scene

Gay Bangkok has been centered around Silom, the gay center of the city, for decades. The two narrow alleys, Silom Soi 2 and Silom Soi 4, are home to the largest concentration of gay bars and clubs in Southeast Asia, and both sois are just a short walk from each other. Soi 4 is the street for pre-drinking and people-watching, on Soi 2 people dance. If you arrive by train, get off at the Sala Daeng BTS station or the Si Lom MRT station, both of which are right next to the scene.

For queer travelers, the city is considered one of the most open in Asia. The nightlife is only part of it: In addition, there are large saunas, queer-friendly hotels, temples and markets that can be combined well with a few trendy evenings. At the beginning of 2025, Thailand introduced same-sex marriage, and Bangkok Pride draws hundreds of thousands along Silom Road every year in early summer. When it comes to travel time, it's worth taking a look at the weather. From November to February it is drier and somewhat cooler, June already falls in the rainy season with short, heavy showers and high humidity. On the other hand, flights and hotels are often cheaper during these months.
